“It is like an income tax which was abolished for OFWs and even their tax-free income filings were destroyed. They are just totally out of the purview of government exactions which they will not benefit at all,” sabi ni Locsin.
Itong nagdaang mga araw ay naging maugong ang reklamo ng mga kababayan nating OFWs laban sa bagong patakaran. Sa ilalim kasi ng bagong circular ng Philhealth, ang mga OFWs na may buwanang kita na P10,000 hanggang P60,000 ay tataasan ang kaltas sa kanilang sahod ng 3% para sa Philhealth contribution.
“After the abolition of the income tax on OFWs, they’ve figured another way to tax you for the great privilage of being born Filipino, poor and jobless at home. Let’s all sing for nothing. Why don’t we just leave OFWs alone except to help them when they are in trouble. Their blood but better wages abroad account for 10% of our GDP according to the a**** who want to take some of their earning,” banat pa ni Locsin.
Ang bagong isyu ay sinakyan naman ng makakaliwang grupo na Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) para gamitin laban sa gobyerno.
“Why burden our OFWs burden with more mandatory payments when the government cannot even provide them with sufficient aid in this time of crisis? Why make them more cash-strapped?… Bakit ang OFWs natin ang pinag-iinitan? Ang gobyerno natin mabilis payagan ang operasyon ng POGO na hindi naman nag-aambag sa ekonomiya ng bansa, pero yung maliliit nating OFWs pinipiga pa,” sabi ni KMU Chairperson Elmer Labog.
