Hontiveros’ anti-rape tip: ‘Huwag kang mang-rape’

Senator Risa Hontiveros on Monday gave a piece of advice to the public on how to prevent incidence of rape as she stressed that victim-blaming should stop.

"Here’s an effective anti-rape tip: HUWAG KANG MANG-RAPE," Hontiveros, chair of the Senate committee on women, said in a Twitter post. "Kung iniisip mong mang-rape, awatin mo sarili mo. Sa panahong sa tingin mo ay gusto mong mang-rape, pigilan mo ang sarili mo, at HUWAG MANG-RAPE," she added.
Her remarks came on the heels of the controversial Facebook post of Lucban Municipal Police Station reminding the public to respect women but also asked girls not to wear short dresses to avoid sexual harassment.

The social media post, as well as the page where it appeared, were both taken down.

The Philippine National Police is already doing an investigation on the matter.

It also vowed to conduct personnel training on gender sensitivity and awareness, and on social media protocol.
