Kung ang mga kritiko ay abala sa pag tuligsang sa hakbang ng pamahalaan na pagandahain ang Manila Bay, nanindigan namain si Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso na hindi nakakasama ang paglalatag ng white sand sa dalampaigan sa sikat na tourist attraction ng Maynila.
“How can I act on something that is not illegal, that is not harmful?… It will be quite unfair to anybody who works in government. Madali naman mag-akusa, madaling magbintang e, but it has to be proven,” sabi ng alkalde.
Naniniwala din daw siya sa kaalaman ng mga tauhan ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
“I think DENR is in the right position to know it better than me, na ito’y makapaminsala sapagkat sila naman ang talagang itinalaga ng batas na mangalaga sa ating kapaligiran. I don’t think a person in his right mind, who is obliged to protect the environment, will pollute the environment,” paliwanag ni Mayor Isko.
Nitong nagdaang mga araw ay naging tampok sa mga balita ang white sand project sa Manila Bay. Ilan kasi sa mga maiingay na kritiko ay nagbibitiw ng kung anu-anong akusasyon laban sa proyekto ng gobyerno, tulad ng masamang epekto daw ng crushed dolomite sa kalusugan at environmental impact na maidudulot daw nito.
Nilinaw na rin ng Department of Health (DOH) na walang dapat ipangamba sa crushed dolomite na ginagamit sa white sand project dahil mas malaki daw ito sa alikabok.
“As stated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the dolomite material that is being used in Baywalk is 2 to 5 mmm or 100 times bigger than dust, therefore does not get suspended in air… Moreover, occupational health and safety standards for workers, and precautionary measures for the containment of possible dusty formation are being implemented… Therefore, in terms of the general safety of the public, who will be enjoying the shoreline once permitted, DOH assures that no untoward incidents will occur as a result of this endeavor,” sabi ng DOH.
