Gustong opposition senator Risa Hontiveros na paimbistigahan sa senado ang nalalapit na pagpasok ng DITO telecommunity, ang ikatlong major telecommunications company.
Giit ni Hontiveros, malaking implikasyon sa seguridad ang panibagong telco. Ginamit ng senadora na batayan para sa sinusulong niyang imbestigasyon ay ang pag-aaral daw ng isang banyang kumpanya na Creator Tech.
“We, in the Senate, should stop ignoring these blatant red flags. National interest and security is what is at stake here… And in light of these recent findings, I hope that the committee can act on my resolution immediately… Creator Tech also thought it necessary to articulate that Dito’s reporting line is under the State Council of the PRC because, indeed, this fact alone is alarming enough, especially at a time when China continues her adventurism in contested territories in the West Philippine Sea,” boladas ni Hontiveros.
Kahapon ay ipinagpaliban naman ni Senadora Grace Poe ang pagbbigay ng franchise renewal sa DITO. Gusto daw niyang muna matupad ng DITO ang pangako nito na internet speed.
“When DITO applied for this franchise, they should have had the forecast of what they were going to spend… They should be able to provide the initial commitment they made if they are able to do that, then we will give them the additional 25 years… They should not have anticipated that they will get a renewal of their franchise unless they are able to produce the commitments that they were able to make,” kuda ni Poe.
Ang 3rd telco ay isa sa mga pangako ni Pangulong Duterte. Nais ng Presidente na magkaroon na maayos na internet service ang mga Pilipino. Magugunita na noong 2019 ay binigyan ni Pangulong Duterte ang DITO telecommunity ng license to operate sa Pilipinas.
Ang DITO telecommunity ay inaasahang magsisimula ng kanilang operasyon sa Marso ng 2021.
