Pagbawi sa Ari-arian ng ABS-CBN, Kinakasa na ng mga Kongresista!

Sa online meeting nina Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta (Sagip party-list), Deputy Majority Leader Jesus Remulla (Cavite) and Rep. Michael Defensor (Anakalusugan party-list), napag-usapan nila ang mga maaari pang ipataw na pasura laban sa ABS-CBN.

Isa sa mga napag-usapan nila ay ang pagbawi ng ari-arian ng Kapamilya network. Iminungkahi din na patawan ang istasyon ng P1.97 trillion na multa.

Ayon kay Congressman Marcoleta, ang lupang kinatitirikan ng ABS-CBN headquarters sa Mother Ignacia Street sa Quezon City ay hindi pag-aari ng Lopez Family.

Ang rason ng ABS-CBN kaya hindi daw nila maipakita ang orihinal na titulo ng lupa ay dahil nasa “reconstitution” daw ito. Pero giit ni Congressman Marcoleta, dinoktor lang daw ang titulo kaya walang maipakita ang istasyon.

“‘Yung titulo ang unahin natin. Para makuha natin agad iyon. Kasi sa lupa, wala silang mabubuhat doon. Lahat ng chattels at improvements ay pag-aari na ng gobyerno. Sapagkat ang lupa ay sa gobyerno. Kapag tinake-over iyon madali silang makakapag-programa doon,” sabi ni Congressman Marcoleta.

Ngayong Hulyo ay ibinasura ng kongreso ang aplikasyon ng ABS-CBN para sa panibagong prangkisa. Ilan sa mga nasilip ng mga mambabatas ay ang kuwestiyonableng labor practices ng istasyon. Nakita rin ng mga kongresista ang tax avoidance scheme ng Kapamilya network. Naungkat din sa mga pagdinig sa kongreso ang dual citizenship ni ABS-CBN Chairman Emeritus Eugenio Lopez III.

“It is what it is — a denial of a privilege granted by the State because the applicant was seen as undeserving of the grant of a legislative franchise. By no means can this franchise application be related to press freedom. If it were so, then all applicants for legislative franchises covering mass media could simply claim such freedom and force the hand of this Committee each time… Such a scenario is totally inconsistent with the nature of legislative franchises as a mere privilege and never a matter of right. Wherefore, in view of the foregoing, the technical working group respectfully recommends the DENIAL of the franchise application of ABS CBN Corporation,” sabi sa resolusyon ng komite sa kongreso.
