Papalo na daw sa 18 estudyante ng Univesity of the Philippines (UP) na sumali sa New Peoples Army (NPA) ang napulbos dahil sa pagrerebelde at paglaban sa gobyerno.
Ito ang ibinunyag ni Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Gilbert Gapay.
Dahil sa nangyayari panghihikayat ng mga rebeldeng komunista sa loob ng UP, nagpahayag ng suporta si Gapay sa naging hakbang ni Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana na ibasura ang 1989 UP-DND accord, dahil nagagamit daw ito para makapanghikayat ang mga NPA sa loob ng paaralan.
“The agreement has become obsolete… University of the Philippines has become the breeding ground of intransigent individuals and groups whose extremist beliefs have inveigled students to join their ranks to fight against the government…The Department of National Defense will neither renege nor shirk on its duty to protect the rights of the majority,” paliwanag ni Secretary Lorenzana.
Giit ni Gapay, dapat nang matigil ang panghihikayat ng mga NPA sa mga paaralan dahil nadadala lang sa kapahamakan ang mga kabataan. Paliwanag pa ni Gapay, hindi na pwedeng makapagtago pa ang mga rebeldeng komunista sa loob ng paaralan dahil sa pagbasura sa UP-DND accord.
