“Sadly, the Anti-Terrorism Bill is also causing fear—fear from abuse of power because of uncertainties and lack of dialogue. It is unfortunate that instead of uniting the people during these difficult times, the bill is dividing us. We must remember that the bill must yield the greatest net benefit to the people… I am a reservist. I am also a family man. But I am an artist too.

“To Dingdong Dantes:
I, John Paolo N. Nartatez, am also a reservist. But unlike you, I didn’t just obtain my rank without going through the process. I was an ROTC officer during college, finished both basic & advanced military science and underwent summer training in Camp Riego de Dios. As part of the AFP Reserve Corps, I’m so displeased with your recent pronouncements against the Anti-Terrorism Law. You made an oath to our flag that you will protect our motherland and its people from threats to our sovereignity. I hope you can be man enough to walk your talk and not let yourself be influenced by any political color.

Thousands of soldiers have perished in exchange of the peaceful environment that you and your family have right now. Tribal leaders and lumads have been mercilessly murdered, their properties destroyed and basic rights taken away by anti-government forces. Both foreign and local investors refused to establish businesses in areas known to have presence of terrorists. If you still can’t see the bigger picture, you are dragging the entire Armed Forces with your shallow thinking. You are utterly neglecting your duty to the State by adapting the same thinking as the rebels.

The enemies don’t rest even in this time of pandemic. The ATL is an instrumental tool into keeping peace and order, not a threat to freedom. I honestly don’t mind your obvious affiliation with a political party as long as your political stand does not get in the way of fulfilling your duties. However, you need to understand that as an individual, your actions will reflect to the AFP. Whenever you speak, you are not only speaking for yourself but for us too. So please, if you really can’t live by the military codes of conduct, do us all a favor. Renounce from the AFP. Stop disgracing us!”

“Dingdong i have a message for you.

Way back 2004 ako sampu ng mga opisyal ng AFP under the Office of the President ay binuo ang Office of the Anti-Terrorism Task Force (ATTF).

Bilang isang reservist, as you claim to be. It only shows na hilaw pagiging reservists mo at mababaw ang foundation mo bilang Navy Reserve. May spokesperson ang AFP at youre violating the protocol by branding your reserve status at the same time being a civilian, an actor at that. You are well covered by a court martial kaya shut the hell up.

Keep your opinion to yourself. A soldier only talks when asked.” resbak ni Ignacio.

“Artists were not consulted on this bill, and yet we are among those whose personal and professional lives are at stake… Contrary to the notion that we only exist to entertain, artists are actually vital storytellers of our nation’s past, present and future. We help bring people together; we help Filipinos stand as one nation as we have always done in the past and are continuing to do during the current pandemic… And since the Filipino’s cooperation, support, trust, and confidence is critical in the fight against terrorism, we, artists assert our role and responsibility in helping craft the law so that we may better contribute in bringing the people together towards one goal which is freedom and peace,” kuda ni Dantes.

“(The passage of the proposed measure into law would be of) immense contribution to the success of the AFP’s counter-terrorism campaigns”… It may not immediately wipe away the menace, but it shall provide big strides toward winning the war against it beginning from the definition as to who are terrorists to penalizing other act or acts that are contributory or leading to the eventual commission of the felony,” sabi ni AFP spokesman Brigadier General Edgard Arevalo.
