Ayon kay Councilor Rico Maca, sumalakay ang NPA sa tribal settlement sa Barangay Magroyong nito lamang Huwebes. Sa pagsalakay ng mga rebelde, 2 sibilyan ang nadali ng mga kawatan. Nakilala ang mga biktima ng NPA na sina Zaldy Ibañez, 52-anyos at Datu Bernandino Montenegro Astudillo, 73-anyos, isang tribal cheftain. Ayon kay Councilor Maca, nakitaan ng mga taga ang katawan ni Astudillo.
Kinilala ng mga kaanak ng mga biktima at ng ilang residente sa lugar na mga NPA nga ang salarin.
“We, the Manobo tribe condemn this barbaric act done by the NPA to our leader, Datu Bernandino. We have proven once again that the NPA did not honor the suspension of military operation (SOMO) which their leaders previously agreed as the nation now is suffering due to the threat of Coronavirus disease (Covid-19),” sabi ni Maca.
Kinumpirma na rin ng kapulisan na ang NPA nga ang may sala.
““Based on the investigation conducted by the police, the residents in the area identified the perpetrators as NPA rebels. Family members of the victims also identified some of the rebels who harassed the village,” saas ni Surigao del Sur Provincial Police Office (SDSPPO) director, Col. James Goforth.
Magugunita na nag-alok na si Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte ng ceasefire sa mga rebeldeng komunista upang makiisa ang mga ito sa paglaban sa coronavirus. Pero imbes na tanggapin ang panawagan ng Presidente, iginiit ng mga komunista na hindi raw sinsero ang Pangulo.
“The ceasefire declaration by the Duterte regime is premature, if not insincere and false. The militarist lockdown on the whole of Luzon is meant not to fight covid-19 pandemic but to intimidate the people, suppress democratic rights, commit human rights violations and prevent the working people from going to their workplaces,” boladas ni Communit Party of the Philippines Founder Joma Sison.
