Based on poll surveys before the May 9 election, Robin Padilla was a shoo-in to win a senate seat.
But topping the senate race over come backing and veteran senators raised many eyebrows among the supporters of the Kakampinks and even to some degree, the supporters of the BBM-Sara tandem.
Many are asking on social media where did Robin Padilla get that 26M votes?
Well, he has been PRRD’s staunch supporter since the 2016 campaign and has been very visible in helping the Duterte admin in whatever he can as a private individual and later as the Philippine Army Multi-Sectoral Advisory Board’s (PA MSAB) Strategic Communications (StratCom) Committee Chief. The StratCom is the PA MSAB’s arm responsible for ensuring the proper dissemination of information on the Army’s operations both within the military and between them and the general public. So, it is very possible that the all those voted for Duterte in 2016 also voted for Robin Padilla in full force in 2022 because he is the sentimental favorite to continue some of the programs of Duterte that did not materialize during his term. For example the Federalism advocacy of the President.
Speaking of which, some political pundits on Facebook believe that Padilla’s votes came from those people who are convinced that Federalism is now ripe in the country and Robin Padilla, having been very vocal about it and even ran on that platform, will be the best person to champion the cause in the senate during the next administration.
There are many stories of Robin Padilla’s charitable works that came out lately that some of us heard for the first time and for sure it contributed greatly to his tremendous success in senate bid.
Of course, the charismatic Padillla benefited from the political machinery of the administration for supporting President Duterte in 2016 and also for supporting the BBM-Sara tandem. In other words, Padilla was able to ride the crest of the wave of popularity of PRRD and the BBM-Sara tandem who garnered 31M+ votes each.
Lest I forget, the INC endorsement was also a huge factor.
And lastly, Padilla also acted as negotiator in several Abu Sayyaf kidnapping incidents and his legends apparently grew little by little among the masses, particularly in Mindanao.
The story I was about to share with you is a perfect example of Robin Padilla’s exploit in Mindanao that a a few us knew in Luzon and in Visayas.
Little did we know, Robin Padilla’s many good deeds in and behind the limelight contributed to his very extraordinary senate run.
