Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte made a courtesy call to the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church Of Christ) Central Office Saturday, March 21, 2020, and received a monetary donation from the Church’s Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo. This is for the assistance to the Quezon City government’s initiative to help the urban poor fight the COVID-19 virus.
As of Saturday, March 21, Quezon City reported 44 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).  The city has a population of about three million, and is considered the largest city in the National Capital Region (NCR).
On March 15, Metro Manila was placed under community quarantine by President Rodrigo Duterte who later placed the entire island of Luzon under “enhanced community quarantine effective March 17 that will end on April 14.
As a result, public transportation is prohibited, as well as the operation of different establishments. This means a month of no income to the underprivileged.
In response, the Iglesia Ni Cristo Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, gave a monetary donation to the Quezon City government through the INC’s General Auditor, Brother Glicerio B. Santos Jr.
“Wow, thank you! Kayo po ang pinakamaraming binigay po sa aming lungsod. Limang milyong piso po,” Mayor Belmonte responded. “Napakalaking tulong po talaga sa amin ito, lalung-lalo na gipit na gipit po kami sa panggastos sa pagkain, gamot, mga gamit sa precautionary measures na kakailanganin, karamihan po ng biktima natin ay senior citizens. Marami po tayong matutulungan na mga pamilya, and I’m very grateful. Please accept, from the bottom of my heart, my heartfelt gratitude to you.”

(Wow, thank you! You gave the most aid to our city. Five million pesos. This is a great help for us, especially now that we are running short of funds for food, medicine, necessary equipment for precautionary measures since most of the victims are senior citizens. We can aid so many families now, and I’m very grateful. Please accept, from the bottom of my heart, my heartfelt gratitude to you.)
“The Church Of Christ extends its helping hand wherever and whenever it is needed. This is to uphold God’s commandment of helping our fellowmen. The Church has reached 158 countries, many of which have already been affected by the COVID-19 virus. The Church Administration strives to extend to these countries the help that they need to overcome this pandemic that is crippling the world,” a release from the INC News and Updates said.
