Ang mga nasabing pampasabog ay ibinaon ng mga New People’s Army (NPA) para isabotahe ang coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19) prevention efforts ng mga frontliners at sibilyan, ayon kay ng 46IB Commanding Officer LTC. Rhomel Langcauon
Magugunita na noong 2019 ay may apat na pumanaw dahil sa IED na itinanim ng mga rebeldeng komunista sa Borongan, Samar. 14 naman ang sugatan sa ginawa ng mga NPA.
Kani-kanina lang ay may naiulat na sundalong nasawi dahil sa pananambang ng mga rebeldeng komunista. Nasawi si Private First Class Mark Nemis matapos silang paulanan ng bala ng NPA. Ang grupo ni Nemis ay nagsasagawa ng humanitarian work laban sa covid-19.
Magugunita na sinabihan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte ang mga rebeldeng komunista na tumulong na lang muna sa paglaban sa covid-19 at itigil ang pag-aatake.
Ang mapanlinlang na galaw ng mga komunista ay kinundina ng ating kasundaluhan. Ayon sa opisyal ng militar, nilabag ng mga komunista ang ceasefire para samantalahin ang covid-19 pandemic.
“Instead of helping our people fight COVID-19 pandemic, these communist-terrorists are taking advantage of the situation to conduct atrocities distracting the COVID-19 efforts of our troops. They are the ones violating their ceasefire, since they purposely left their lairs in the mountains and went down to the barangays where our troops are doing humanitarian activities… Despite our loss, we will remain resolute in serving our people, especially in a situation like this where we are facing health crisis. As we strengthen our COVID-19 efforts, we will also be intensifying our defensive action to protect our people from the menace of these terrorists, the true viruses of the society,” sabi ni Major General Eric Vinoya ng 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division.
